Community Care Providers Scotland to pilot
Capita Support

Capita Software Services is working with Community Care
Providers Scotland (CCPS), the association of voluntary sector organisations, to pilot the Capita Support web-based outcome
monitoring tool. Launched earlier this year, the software will assist providers of housing support to demonstrate the impact their services have on people’s lives.

CCPS’s housing support outcomes framework currently
captures those elements which demonstrate the difference that housing support services make to the lives of those who use them. Information about individual outcomes is key to supporting service development and contract monitoring.

Yvette Burgess, director of the Housing Support Enabling Unit,
CCPS, commented: “The Housing Support Enabling Unit was
established in January 2004 to assist and support independent
service providers in the implementation of the Supporting People programme. The web-based tool that Capita is configuring for this unit will allow providers across Scotland to voluntarily create a record of service user outcomes electronically. These outcomes measure the impact of individual housing support services for individual clients. We look forward to piloting this system which will be of great interest to commissioners of housing services, service providers and those using housing support services.”

Roger Birkinshaw, Director of Housing at Capita Software
Services, said: “The priority for voluntary sector organisations who work with vulnerable people within our communities is to provide them with much needed care and support. Capita Support is designed to complement these organisations’ existing processes, creating a more effective and efficient solution to monitoring outcomes.”

The Capita Support software solution was launched in
early 2009 by Capita Housing. It has been specifically
developed to meet the needs of agencies, commissioners
and providers within the Supported Housing and Services
arena. It is designed to facilitate improved assessment, matching, referral and placement functions for accommodation based and floating supporting services, where support can be provided to vulnerable citizens regardless of where they live. It is the only dedicated system currently on the market that allows matching of clients and providers. This package has already been successfully implemented at over 10 organisations throughout the UK.

The Welsh Council Tax Benefit Take Up campaign now complete

The campaign was a shared initiative between seven Welsh Local Authorities (LAs), - including four that are not Capita Revenues and Benefits customers - Capita Call Centre, Coventry and Talkingtech UK Ltd (specialised data dialing company).

The process started in November 2008 and involved the LAs submitting Council Tax data to Talkingtech for customers not currently in receipt of Council Tax Benefit. Talkingtech harvested telephone numbers for those customers. These were passed to the LA and loaded into their respective Revenues and Benefits systems. A selection process was run to provide Talkingtech with a number of customers they could contact to invite them to apply for the benefit. If the customer chooses to continue they are put through to the Capita Call Centre, and a means test is undertaken. If passed, the customer is given a time at which they will be called back to go through the application process. Once completed, this is passed back to the LA, either on paper or electronically using e-claim technology.

As a result of the automated dialling, Capita Call Centre dealt with in excess of 31,000 calls in a six month period of the campaign. 2,300 of these resulted in claim forms being forwarded to the LAs. The project was completed in July 2009 and has been viewed as a success.
